After years of writing at Sock Monkey Tales (and not very consistently, I might add), I’ve decided to mix things up. If you are reading this, then you know my blog is now called The Accidental Domestic. But, why??????
Well, here is a portion of my About page: (You can read the whole page by clicking on the tab above.)
I’ve never really been a home maker type of wife. By that I mean, while I loved to putter around the house, I was pretty much all about my job. I would much rather be creating the perfect unit on pumpkins than the perfect dinner or ironing clothes. I was super school teacher. There was School Jen and Summer Jen. Summer Jen liked to dabble in cooking and cleaning because it was fun to do on my summer break. My poor Hubs! When I think of all the meals I never cooked for him the first 8 or so years of our marriage, I cringe a little.
Even though I wanted to stay home when Lily was born, I couldn’t and didn’t. That elusive life of the SAHM eluded me. Then, when Henry was born, I got my wish. I was able to stay at home. In so many ways, though I’ve been married for 14 years, it hasn’t been until just these past few years, that I’ve learned what running a home means. I’m still learning.
It was a conviction of mine to stay home with my kids; but I had no idea what I was getting myself into! This full-time mom gig is hard!! While the learning curve has been steep, I never knew how much I would love staying home and being a “domestic”. Whatever that means!!
While this blog won’t have picture perfect formulas of how to have an organized, expertly planned meal and decorated home, it will have a real mom just trying to figure it all out. Some days I will blog about how wildly in love I am with my kids; and the next day I will blog about how I’m dying to use the bathroom just once without an audience. Marriage, kids, books I love to read while I should be cleaning the bathroom, how much I avoid laundry but will move heaven and earth to get to book club, friendships, homeschooling, my obsessive love of pumpkins and learning what it means to be a Proverbs 31 woman…… that’s what you’ll find here.
And while I don’t think anything that happens in life is “accidental”, it is indeed the unexpected life I never knew I wanted.
I’m glad you stopped by. I hope you stay and read awhile.
This is me last year, cooking my first ever turkey. Please ignore the funky pajama mash-up I have going on here. It was early!
IF I COULD ADD ONE MORE REASON for the change, it would be this…… I loved the name Sock Monkey Tales. It was stories, or Tales, about my life. My life is so different from when I first began that blog. Much has happened to our family and to me. And while I’m the same old silly gal I’ve always been, so much about me, my family and my relationship to the Lord has changed. The Bauers are growing up! I felt the blog needed to reflect this new season in our lives.
I am in the process of transferring all my old posts from Blogger to WordPress. And by me, I mean the Hubs. He’s got a lot of work to do! So, my tabs will be a bit empty for a while; but I’m trying to post new things on a regular basis. Hopefully, three times a week. I’m still working on how I want the blog to look and how to use WordPress, which is completely new to me. It is a work in progress.
I’m excited about the changes and trying something new. I hope you stick around and see where this blog goes.
